New York by Gehry
New York by Gehry, the tallest residential building in New York at 870 feet, is a 76-story stainless steel giant and the latest addition to the Lower Manhattan skyline. Designed to look like draped fabric with a series of folds – the resulting angles lead mean sweeping views and unique apartment layouts for residents to choose from.
Gehry is a deconstructivist Canadian architect with a portfolio including the Guggenheim Museum in Bilbao, the Air and Space exhibit building in LA, the Disney Village in Disneyland Paris, the Frederick Weisman Museum of Art in the University of Minnesota and the Novartis Pharma A.G. Campus in Basel.
A gallery in the building features a wall-sized image of Gehry’s first “napkin sketch” of the building. Other highlights include the swimming pool, sky-lit at 50 feet up with a sundeck surrounded by glass doors and 15,000 square feet of outdoor open space along with two public plazas designed by Field Operations (also responsible for King’s Cross Square in London).
