Explorer Suite by Jim Thompson
LOFT got a look into the Four Season Bangkok’s newest addition to their luxury accommodation – The Explorer Suite by Jim Thompson. Formerly the General Manager’s Penthouse, it underwent a dramatic transformation at the hands of designer Jeffrey Wilkes of designWILKES, Kuala Lumpur, reopening in November of last year.
Rather than choosing to replicate the teak paneling and furniture of Thompson’s iconic home, LOFT notes that the suite has been designed in the theme of a colonial summer house – traditional yet understated, with clean contemporary lines displayed throughout.
The space includes a master bedroom with king-sized bed, another bedroom with two double beds, two and half bathrooms and a large, well-lit living area with dining room. The views from the study overlook the golf course of the Royal Bangkok Sports Club.
Of all the design elements on display, its the fabrics displayed that we really love, which include some of the earliest Thai silks in addition to the latest linen prints, reflecting the history and influence of Jim Thompson textiles in the Thai silk industry. The Explorer Suite also features elements from the new range of Jim Thompson furniture designed by world-renowned architect Ed Tuttle.
The Explorer Suite pays homage to Thompson’s contribution to local industry and art and provides an oasis in the heart of a bustling city.
