Cantonese at the W
The end of November marked the opening of Sing Yin Cantonese Dining at W Hotels’ Hong Kong branch – the group’s first foray into providing dedicated Cantonese cuisine.
Chef Bryn Lee’s menu includes a creative mix of traditional Chinese dishes from seafood to dim sum, all to be enjoyed in a stylish interior designed by the renowned architect and interior designer Steve Leung (pictured, in the restaurant) – whose back catalogue includes 39 Conduit Road and Xiao Nan Guo Premier in Hong Kong and The Eight at the Grand Lisboa, Macau.
The marriage of contemporary Western design and Hong Kong’s rich past are prevalent throughout the bar and dining areas. Luxuriantly dark tones emanate from the walls and furnishings throughout, occasionally punctuated by the soft glow emitted from elegant paper lanterns suspended from above – a stark contrast to the gaudy grandeur of typical Hong Kong dim sum halls.
Playful vignettes of local life from boutiques, grocers and barbers of yesteryear adorn the walls in cozy semi-private rooms, with a cosmopolitan snapshot of Central’s skyscrapers in the main dining room. Sing Yin also accommodates diners in a private VIP dining room featuring a picturesque countryside motif adorning its walls.
